Nick Westbrook-Ikhine Prepared for bigger role
Fri, May 6, 2022, 7:30 PM
Westbrook-Ikhine believes he is prepared to step into a bigger role in the Titans' offense, Jim Wyatt of the Titans' official site reports.
Analysis: The Titans' receiving corps was overhauled this offseason, as both A.J. Brown and Julio Jones are no longer on the roster. While the team acquired Robert Woods (knee) and drafted Treylon Burks, Westbrook-Ikhine should be in a position to improve upon the 38 receptions he posted in 2021. He should begin the season on the field regularly in three-receiver sets and could be in line to share snaps out of the slot with Woods.
Tommy Hudson
Tommy Hudson Falls down depth cahart
Fri, May 6, 2022, 7:09 PM
Hudson (ankle) currently projects to be fourth on the Titans' tight end depth chart, Ben Arthur of the Tennessean reports.
Analysis: Hudson ended the 2021 season on injured reserve and also missed six weeks earlier in the season with a related issue. He was active for only two games and could be on the roster bubble heading into 2022, particularly after the team selected Chig Okonkwo in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft.
Ryan Tannehill
Ryan Tannehill Firm grasp on starting job
Sat, Apr 30, 2022, 10:26 AM
Tannehill will remain the Titans' starting quarterback even after the team drafted Malik Willis in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft, Turron Davenport of ESPN reports.
Analysis: Tannehill helped lead the Titans to the top seed in the AFC in 2021, yet there was some concern about his level of play throughout the season. That stemmed primarily from turnovers, as he threw 14 interceptions and lost four fumbles across 17 games. He also threw three interceptions in the team's playoff defeat to Cincinnati, ending his campaign on a particularly sour note. However, Tannehill isn't likely to be immediately pushed for his starting job by Willis, who is regarded as an extremely talented -- but raw -- prospect. On the other hand, the selection of Willis could be the first sign that Tannehill's reign is nearing its end in Tennessee, as he is entering his age-34 season and his current contract expires at the conclusion of the 2023 season.
A.J. Brown
A.J. Brown In line to skip offseason workouts
Mon, Apr 18, 2022, 11:26 AM
Brown isn't expected to participate in any on-field work during the Titans' offseason program, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.
Analysis: The 2019 second-rounder, who is approaching the final year of his rookie deal with the team, is in line for a lucrative second NFL contract, especially considering some of the big payouts that fellow star wideouts have earned of late. With that in mind, ESPN's Turron Davenport relays that Brown doesn't plan to report for the start of the Titans' voluntary offseason program Monday. Though there's been some speculation that Tennessee might consider trading the 24-year-old, Dianna Russini of ESPN reported earlier this month that GM Jon Robinson is not taking calls from other teams on Brown, with Davenport adding that it's Robinson's stated goal to keep the talented pass catcher around beyond 2022. In 13 games last season, the 6-foot-1, 226-pounder caught 63 of his 105 targets for 869 yards and five TDs.
Robert Woods
Robert Woods Won't be ready for OTAs
Wed, Mar 23, 2022, 1:18 PM
Woods (knee) said Wednesday that he won't be ready to join the Titans for OTAs this spring, John Glennon of SI.com reports.
Analysis: A prior report suggested Woods was hoping to return for minicamp in May or June. While gaining clearance for minicamp may be a stretch, Woods should have a real chance to be ready for the start of training camp in late July, at which point he'll be eight and a half months removed from suffering an ACL tear and undergoing surgery. The Rams traded Woods to the Titans on Saturday, ending his five-year run in Los Angeles and leaving no doubt that Allen Robinson is the team's new No. 2 receiver. Woods will fill that same role in Tennessee, with he and tight end Austin Hooper providing Ryan Tannehill with some new weapons alongside superstars Derrick Henry and A.J. Brown.
Robert Woods
Robert Woods Gets moved to Tennessee
Sat, Mar 19, 2022, 6:38 PM
The Rams traded Woods (knee) to the Titans in Saturday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: After the failed Julio Jones experiment in the 2021 campaign, the Titans are making another splash in the trade market this offseason to get a No. 2 wide receiver to complement A.J. Brown. Woods sustained a torn ACL during practice on Nov. 13, but reports have emerged this offseason that he's aiming to participate at some point during the offseason program. Now, those sessions will be in Nashville versus L.A. following this deal. Prior to suffering the injury last season, he put together a 45-556-4 line on 69 targets in nine games, and the nine-year pro does have two 1,000-yard seasons under his belt, so the talent is there to be a viable pass catcher for Ryan Tannehill once Woods is healthy.
Jordan Wilkins
Jordan Wilkins Inks deal with Titans
Fri, Mar 18, 2022, 11:26 PM
Wilkins signed a contract with the Titans on Friday, Jim Wyatt of the Titans' official site reports.
Analysis: Wilkins began the 2021 season with the Colts and closed out the year with Tennessee's practice squad. He appeared in just one game for the Titans last year but will have the chance to compete for a backup role behind Derrick Henry heading into 2022.
Austin Hooper
Austin Hooper Joining Titans
Fri, Mar 18, 2022, 3:18 PM
Hooper is slated to sign a one-year, $6 million deal with the Titans, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Hooper is coming off a 2021 season in which he logged 38 catches (on 61 targets) for 345 yards and three TDs in 16 games for the Browns. The 27-year-old put those numbers up in the context of working in a time-share that involved David Njoku andHarrison Bryant, to a lesser degree. With the Titans, he'll have Geoff Swaim to contend with for targets, but we nonetheless expect Hooper -- a 2016 third-rounder -- to see an uptick in looks this coming season, and with that, a corresponding increase in fantasy utility.
Nick Westbrook-Ikhine
Nick Westbrook-Ikhine Shifts up depth chart
Wed, Mar 16, 2022, 9:51 PM
Westbrook-Ikhine is currently the second receiver on Tennessee's depth chart after the team released Julio Jones on Wednesday, Turron Davenport of ESPN reports.
Analysis: Westbrook-Ikhine joined the Titans as an undrafted free agent prior to the 2020 season and was a significant contributor to the team in 2021. He posted 38 receptions for 476 yards and four touchdowns across 16 games, highlighted by a 107-yard performance in Week 11 against Houston. Though Westbrook-Ikhine is currently penciled in behind only A.J. Brown on Tennessee's wide receiver depth chart, it's likely that that the team will add players at the position either in free agency or in the draft.
Geoff Swaim
Geoff Swaim Staying with Titans
Mon, Mar 14, 2022, 11:17 AM
The Titans have agreed to a one-year deal with Swaim, John Glennon of SI.com reports.
Analysis: The 28-year-old is coming off a 2021 season in which he recorded 31 catches (on 40 targets) for 210 yards and three TDs in 16 games. Swaim's fantasy upside this coming season hinges on what other moves the Titans make at tight end this offseason, given that Anthony Firkser and MyCole Pruitt are both eligible for free agency.
Nick Westbrook-Ikhine
Nick Westbrook-Ikhine Back for another season
Wed, Mar 9, 2022, 12:26 PM
Westbrook-Ikhine has agreed to a one-year deal with the Titans.
Analysis: Westbrook-Ikhine, who joined the team as an undrafted free agent in 2020, is coming off a 2021 campaign in which he recorded 38 catches (on 57 targets) for 476 yards and four touchdowns in 16 games. The 6-foot-2, 211-pounder, who turns 25 on March 21, approaches the coming season with modest fantasy upside, with A.J. Brown and Julio Jones currently ahead of him on Tennessee's wideout depth chart.
Logan Woodside
Logan Woodside Agrees to one-year deal
Wed, Mar 9, 2022, 12:13 PM
Woodside has signed a one-year contract to remain with the Titans.
Analysis: Prior to re-upping with the team, the QB had been scheduled to become an exclusive rights free agent next week. Now that he's back in the fold for 2022, Woodside is slated to reprise his role as starting quarterback Ryan Tannehill's top backup.
A.J. Brown
A.J. Brown Preliminary extension talks
Wed, Mar 2, 2022, 9:14 PM
Brown and the Titans have engaged in preliminary extension talks, Jim Wyatt of the Titans' official site reports.
Analysis: Brown is entering the final year of his rookie deal, and it comes as little surprise that the Titans hope to ensure he doesn't reach free agency. Brown has served as a key to the passing offense in Tennessee since being a second-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, topping 50 receptions and 850 receiving yards in each of his three seasons. That primary thing slowing Brown down has been injury, as he has dealt with chest, knee and hamstring issues in recent campaigns. Nevertheless, he should be in line for a lucrative long-term extension given his notable production prior to the age of 25.
Mason Kinsey
Mason Kinsey Sticking with Titans
Mon, Jan 24, 2022, 3:39 PM
The Titans signed Kinsey to a reserve/future contract Monday, Jim Wyatt of the Titans' official site reports.
Analysis: Kinsey failed to make the Titans' 53-man roster to begin the 2021 campaign, and he appeared in just one game while spending most of the season on the practice squad. The 23-year-old will continue to develop with the organization during the offseason.
D'Onta Foreman
D'Onta Foreman Produces in relief
Sat, Jan 22, 2022, 10:03 PM
Foreman rushed the ball four times for 66 yards in Saturday's 19-16 divisional-round loss to the Bengals.
Analysis: Foreman was relegated to backup duties due to the return of Derrick Henry (foot). Though that limited his opportunities, he was effective when called upon by ripping off gains of 45, 10 and nine yards. Tennessee's season ended in disappointing fashion, but it was very successful for Foreman from a personal perspective. He earned a career-high 133 carries to gain 566 yards and three touchdowns, which came primarily when he served as the team's lead back while Henry was sidelined. Foreman will enter the offseason as an unrestricted free agent and should find be able to land a deal and earn a fairly substantial role in a backfield.
Ryan Tannehill
Ryan Tannehill Three costly turnovers
Sat, Jan 22, 2022, 9:35 PM
Tannehill completed 15 of 24 passes for 220 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions in Saturday's 19-16 divisional-round loss to the Bengals.
Analysis: Tannehill began the game in inauspicious fashion, throwing an interception on his first attempt. While things improved from there, he ended the game with another pick that set up the game-winning field goal for Cincinnati. Positively, Tannehill connected on several big plays with A.J. Brown that went for gains of 41,40 and 33 yards. However, that wasn't enough to overcome his mistakes, something that became far too common for Tannehill in 2021. After throwing only 13 interceptions across his first 28 games in Tennessee, he threw 17 across 18 contests in 2021. Even in the face of those struggles, Tannehill will almost certainly enter 2022 as the starting quarterback in Tennessee, as it would cost the team $57.4 million to move on from him.
Julio Jones
Julio Jones Tallies six catches
Sat, Jan 22, 2022, 9:16 PM
Jones recorded six catches on seven targets for 62 yards in Saturday's 19-16 divisional-round loss to the Bengals.
Analysis: Jones led the Titans with six receptions, though he worked almost exclusively in short areas of the field. That resulted in a modest yardage total, with his longest gain going for 16 yards. Even so, Jones matched his highest reception total in any game during his first campaign in Tennessee. He was hampered by a hamstring injury throughout the season, which limited him to only 31 catches, 434 yards and a touchdown across 10 contests -- by far the worst statistical output of his career. The Titans could move on from Jones this offseason, but $13.2 million in dead cap and a lack of proven pass catchers aside from A.J. Brown make it likely that Jones will have the chance to bounce back with Tennessee in 2022.
A.J. Brown
A.J. Brown Big performance in loss
Sat, Jan 22, 2022, 8:07 PM
Brown recorded five receptions on nine targets for 142 yards and a touchdown in Saturday's 19-16 divisional-round loss to the Bengals.
Analysis: Brown matched his counterpart Ja'Marr Chase with several explosive plays, highlighted by a one-handed 33-yard touchdown reception late in the third quarter. Prior to that, he also logged catches of 41 and 40 yards to account for the majority of his production. Though the campaign ends in disappointing fashion for the top-seeded team in the AFC, Brown recorded either a touchdown or topped 100 receiving yards in three of his last four games. His overall numbers fell in his third professional season -- in large part due to him missing four games with hamstring and core injuries -- but he appears to be heading into the offseason healthy and will return to being the top receiver in Tennessee in 2022.
Derrick Henry
Derrick Henry Held in check
Sat, Jan 22, 2022, 7:32 PM
Henry (foot) rushed the ball 20 times for 62 yards and a touchdown in Saturday's 19-16 divisional-round loss to the Bengals.
Analysis: Henry was active for the first time since Week 8, and he immediately returned to play a central role in the Titans' offense. However, he was largely held in check by Cincinnati, as his longest rush went for only nine yards and he averaged only 3.1 yards per carry. He did manage to tally the first touchdown of the game, plunging into the end zone from three yards away midway through the second quarter. While Henry may have experienced limited explosiveness in his return from a lengthy absence, his presence on the field is an encouraging sign that he'll be healthy enough to retain a workhorse role in 2022.
Derrick Henry
Derrick Henry Set to face Bengals
Sat, Jan 22, 2022, 1:49 PM
Henry (foot), who was activated from IR on Friday, is expected to start Saturday's playoff game against the Bengals, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports.
Analysis: The report notes that the running back, who is bouncing back from surgery that involved having a steel plate inserted into his foot, is also on track to play Saturday with a protective metal plate (described as a modified orthotic) in his shoe. Though Henry, who hasn't seen game action since Oct. 31, isn't expected to be on a snap count in his return to action per Rapoport, he will be monitored by the team, presumably with game flow and how he does with his carries early on likely to dictate his workload. D'Onta Foreman and Dontrell Hilliard -- who had been filling in for Henry of late -- are available to handle complementary/change-of-pace touches in order to take some of the load off Tennessee's star back.
